When is BRICS Future Skills Challenge 2023?

South Africa is hosting the BRICS Future Skills Challenge over 12-15 September 2023. 

Where is BRICS Future Skills Challenge 2023 to be hosted?

The BRICS Future Skills Challenge will be hosted at Johannesburg Expo Centre over 12-15 September 2023

The 2023 Skills Challenge will be hosted physically at Joburg Expo Centre, with some hybrid online participation options as well.

Which skills areas will be hosted in BRICS Skills Challenge 2023?

South Africa will be hosting skills challenges in these areas:

What's my benefit in participating?

Can I enter the competition if I am from an African country outside of South Africa?

Yes, you may apply if you are from an African country outside SA.

Will I be expected to pay for my own travel expenses?

All South African competitors’ travel expenses will be covered. Howver, if a competitor is from an African country outside South Africa he or she will be expected to pay for their own travel costs.

What are the prizes for the top achievers in the competition?

The top 3 achievers in each of the skills area will be awarded a gold medal for 1st place, a silver medal for 2nd pace and a bronze medal for 3rd place. There will also be cash prizes awarded to the top achievers, along with guaranteed interviews in their respective fielsds.

Is there an entrance fee that I need to pay?

You do not need to pay a fee to apply to the competition.

Will I receive any training for the challenge?

Yes, all competitors will undergo training under the guidance of our experts in their respective fields. Training will take place on Saturdays, starting on 5 August 2023 and ending on 2 September 2023.

How will the selection process work?

Once you have applied to enter the competition, your application will be reviewed and you will be notified by 7 July 2023 if you will be moving on to the next stage of the selection process. This will be the selection phase which will be held locally across June and July 2023, where ten competitors will be selected for each skill area. All successful candidates will be contacted to inform them of what the next steps are.

Do I need a qualification to enter the competition?

You do not need a tertiary qualification to enter the competition. Please refer to the skills descriptions to view all the competencies and experience required for the challenge.

General

What skills camps do you have?

Currently we have no funding to run skills camps. A number of skills camps were delivered by China and Russia in October 2022 as part of the BRICS Skills Challenge. 

However – for up to date information on future skills camps, visit our Skills Camps page or our FB, Insta or LinkedIn pages. 

Can you run an Atlas future jobs workshop for my sector?

Yes – we are actively looking to expand the Skills Foresight Technology strategic session to other sectors. 

 

Our vision is to build an Atlas of new and emerging jobs for all of South Africa and even the African continent.

BRICS Future Skills Challenge 2022

What training do I get?

Over the month of October, China will be hosting online Skills Camps that will help you prepare for the upcoming challenge. You should have received an email to join the Chinese Telegram Group for your Skills Area. All dates for training will be announced there. 

 

Besides that, you’ll be invited to a whatsapp group with your fellow competitors and experts for the Skills Area you selected to compete in. You’ll be able to ask questions, network and get support. Check your email for the link to join this whatsapp group. If you didn’t receive it, email info@bricsfutureskills.co.za

 

When is the Skills Challenge taking place?

The BRICS Future Skills Challenge is taking place online over the period of 1-6 November 2022

Each skills area will be hosted at a specific date/time over the 1-6 Nov time period. Some skills will be a 3-6hr challenge, others will take place over multiple days.

Where will I get the dates and training materials?

China has requested that all competitors and experts join the Telegram Group for their specific skills area. You’ll need to download the Telegram app (if you haven’t got it already).

The Telegram Group link would have been emailed to you. If you didn’t receive it, please email info@bricsfutureskills.co.za

 

On Telegram, China will announce and share:

  • training camp dates
  • share training materials
  • exact dates and times for the Final Skills Challenge competition

I've applied as an Expert - what is my role?

The expert will be supporting their team in the following ways: 

 

  • Attend the online Skills Camps, hosted by China over October (dates to be announced by China). These camps will consist of online training webinars with relevant training material to help our teams prepare. 
  • Attend the online Skills Challenge over 1-6 Nov (exact date(s) to be announced by China). The challenge is the final competition. 
  • Join the SA Whatsapp Group for your skills area, which will help our SA competitors ask questions and support one another with knowledge sharing. 
  • Join the China Telegram Group for your skills area – this is where China will announce training camp and skills challenge dates, as well as share training materials. 
  • Any other support you’re able to provide (not obligated) to help our SA team compete
